I interviewed our Junior Legal Secretary, Cameron Beavis to find out about her career so far and her role within the Firm.

Cameron is responsible for our front of house. She greets clients and answers calls coming into the Firm. She also ensures that the office runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis. Cameron provides general secretarial support to the Firm.

Why Law?

Cameron decided she wanted a challenging career and she has always been encouraged to be ambitious by her Dad. Cameron became a very accomplished horse rider while growing up and even after a few nasty broken bones she still got back on the horse!

Cameron identified that Law would give her the challenge she wanted and after seeing a few friend’s parents working as lawyers she decided that Law was what she wanted to do!

Current Studies?

Cameron is currently studying Law and International Relations. She is in her 4th year of a 5-and-a-half-year degree. She spends her daytime working at Rouse and her evenings studying for her degree.

Typical Day?

A typical day at Rouse is ensuring the office space is ready for the day for both lawyers and clients. Cameron is responsible for opening our mail and distributing it around the Firm. She will make sure her secretarial duties are ordered for the day and will commence her tasks which primarily includes file opening and closing together with other ad hoc administrative requirements of the Firm.

Outside of work:

Cameron travels back to the Sunshine Coast from Brisbane every weekend to catch up with family and friends and regularly spends time on the beach.

I asked Cameron the following:

What have you learnt so far during your time at Rouse?

“That Teamwork makes the dream work”.

Good and clear communication is key when working in a busy legal office.

What is the best thing about working at Rouse Lawyers?

That I can learn from great lawyers. I have learnt so much from everyone here to assist my studies and long-term future career.

What advice would you give someone who wants to work in a legal environment?

“Be ready to work hard”. It is a demanding profession to be in, but it can also be very rewarding when you see your hard work pay off.
